Gogol Bordello - Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike

There's really nothing more I can say.

EFFING SERIOUSLY

Who the fuck are these people showing up on the top left corner of my page??
I wish I had 3 fists to punch them in the face simultaneously for interrupting my junk.

What the fuck, Blogger.

No, really.
This is what I see:

TT - Confession

It ain't Sunday, but I need to out myself.

I skipped the last acrylics class.  There are 2 major reasons why:
  1. Dayjob.
  2. Hella storm.
So I don't have any class photos or stories to tell you to close this out.
Sucks right?
Oh well.

In other news, here's a still from the movie for the pinup I'm working on.  It shows Adam's hand that I've been attempting:
Watch the movie, dammit.  This is such a great scene.

Here's a photo of something that caught my eye while I was working on it:

I guess that's all for now.

WTH Weds - Dominoes During Storm

Movie Monday - Red State

WOOHOO!!!  A MOVIE!!
Its only been, what, like 6 weeks or some shit since the last one of these?
Got a good one for ya today.  You turds ready?

We went to see this badboy last night.  One night only engagement followed by Q&A with Kevin Smith via UStream.

First, the movie.
What happens when homophobic jesus freaks are well armed and kidnapping kids they lure with the devil's business?
The FBI shows up at their compound and shoot things up.
Also, the sheriff is gay, which doesn't really help the town with dealing with the religious cult.
Michael Parks as Abin Cooper - the cult "father"....was absolutely captivating on screen.
John Goodman, the same, and looks great after the weight loss.  Its nice to still have him around & lookin' good.  Years ago, I would've thought he'd go the way of John Candy.
Pretty damn good cast all around, really.

Its being claimed as a "horror" movie.  I wouldn't call it that.
I'd say its more of an action thriller - and even using the term "thriller" seems a bit off.

I won't give you any spoilers here but towards the end John Goodman makes an amazing speech about how, when he was a kid, his grandmother had a couple of dogs as family pets.  One day, he was finishing dinner and threw the dogs a turkey leg and they went at each other over this turkey leg like they'd never known one another.
Then he says, "People just do the strangest things when they believe they're entitled.  But they do even stranger things when they just plain believe."

Ruminate on that shit for a minute or two.

Second - the Q&A on Ustream.
While they were streaming and setting things up, they had the twitter feed going and folks were crackin' me up with things like, "WTF, I paid $20 to see Kevin Smith on the computer?" and "I missed Breaking Bad for this?"
Kevin Smith was wearing a hockey jersey that made him look 10x bigger & started answering questions about how they took care of all the investors first, didn't take huge salaries in an effort to get the flick out there, and then the stream glitched out so we left.

There's some fun trivia here and an original ending summarized here with more about how they made it on a small budget and crap.

I loved it and give it 5 out of 5 Gabriel's horn blasts.

Sunday Confession - Progress

"May" after Day 2 & in shitty lighting:

I'm comfy with her face now but her left foot is pissing me off.  There's been at least 3 revisions of it today.
The scissors almost look real on this photo.  That's pretty badass.
The scalpel will get some detail work to change it from a butter knife to a scalpel.
I gave her a cigarette this a.m.  She deserved it.  Going all night with a receded hair line and no face.

There's a lot of Disney & Archer influence coming through, I think.
Or I could just be full of shit.

I confess: this is the first time I've drawn/painted a full human figure and its cool to see it come through the way I see it in my head.  That's always been kind of a frustration point.
Also learned today, hands are difficult.  There were probably about 2 or 3 attempts at a sketch for that where the smudges are on the "floor" under the cooler.  Will be practicing over the next couple of days.

Sunday Confession - Juicer

I did not juice today but this is usually what our breakfast looks like in the mornings before it gets pulverized:

I think it looks like hippo food.

Working On Something

Here's all my inspiration:

And here's this afternoon's progress:

I'm kinda diggin' it so far.
If you've never seen "May", its definitely worth a watch and will make more sense of what you're looking at.
Can you tell I'm slightly scared about her face?
Will probably be watching the movie a lot this weekend for more inspiration.

Suckit Saturday - An American Wedding

Remember these fine folks?
Turns out they're gettin' hitched this afternoon!!
And look at how fuckin' cute their invites are!

LOVE it!

Remember last year, when I made a couple of garters for my lovely friends who were gettin' hitched then?
Well, had to dust off the old sewing machine and crap and threw this one together & felt like it needed matching earrings to go with it.
Yes, there are bananas on it.

Man, I'm gettin' good at these things.
Maybe someday I'll make a whole bunch and sell them (that was the idea a year ago).
-ANYWAY-
Cheers to the happy ass couple!!
Now maybe you guys can do some planking!  :)

TT - 5th Class Review

Got there late again this week.

Once I got there, cupiedoll lady was back* and telling everyone that she'd been at the Emmy's.
I grabbed a spot as far away from her as possible.  Next to Donald, who had some rockin' shoes on and has also dyed his hair blonde.  I think he's taking advantage of being the only man in the class.

Cupiedoll lady started talking about what she wore to the events and that she didn't shave her legs and had worn a shorter zebra print dress.  Sally, the teacher, asked her if she wore her spanx.  Cupiedoll lady said, "No, I don't wear those.  I worry about how to pee when I gotta go." which spun us off onto a pee hole/crotchless type discussion that Donald plugged his ears for.
That's what happens when you have a room full of women.
Cupiedoll lady also kept saying that everything was "interesting" and started getting on my nerves with some of her questions, during which I looked at the girl next to me and said, "man, I really missed her."

We got on with things and started playing with gel mediums for "Cornfield With Cypresses" to add to the lines we put up last week.

Here's what my "Garbage Field With Green Turds" looks like now:

--------------------------------------
*don't think I mentioned last week that she wasn't in attendance.

YouTubesday - nicepeter

This guy gets lots of views and is pretty damn funny.  Here are two (sort of) recent faves:

Sunday Confession on Tuesday - 4th Class Review

I was cranky before arriving at class last week.  Dayjob was annoying me and then I got stuck in traffic after stopping for gas.
I got there about 10mins late and everyone was already set up and working on that October piece.
Sally, the teacher, had the commission she'd mentioned working on, on display.  You can see it down there on the right.  The dogs.  She likes painting people's pets.

We worked on "October" for a bit after going through "toning" a canvas.....which is basically your primer coat that you build from.
Here's what my "October Barf" looks like after the 4th class:

Everyone was so tired of this one and vocally ready to move on.  My little red-roofed house looks like it needs stick figures outside of it.
The more we work on it, the more I kinda like it.  I'm just gonna keep adding to it and will keep you posted & show it again when I think its done.
In maybe a year, at this rate.
While this has helped to give me a new appreciation, landscapes aren't really my thing.
Luckily, for me....after our toning dried, we got to work on our base lines for this VanGogh:

Yay.  More landscapes.

Pretty sure everyone will get tired of doing this one, too.  Although, we get to play with heavy medium and will be gloppin' that shit up.

We're all such good students.  Look at us, paying attention and crap.

Here's what my garbage looks like so far:

Kinda lookin' forward to layin' it on thick and smearing that shit around.  Stay tuned.

Suckit Saturday - Boston Highlights Pt. 2

Saturday marnin' we slept in cuz those damn Marriott beds are so friggin' comfy.
Then headed to the Pour House for breakfast beers.
I ate a cheesesteak omelette with sweet potato tots and dark rye toast.
Beer was Pumpkin UFO and pretty damn tasty.  Highlighted more of the spice part of pumpkin spice.
Was quite tasty.
We left a sticker here too.

Afterwards, we wandered over to Newbury Comics.
On the way over, we saw a guy on the street playing a hurdy gurdy.  His dog was chillin' with him.  We gave him a buck.
Sitting next to him was an older guy just sitting there with a paper bag on his head and his change cup out.
Look, if you want me to give you a dollar, you better be doin' some cool shit to earn it.  I'm not going to give it to you just for looking pitiful and needy.
If a dude is playin' some wicked badass instrument, or is telling funny jokes, or is busting some sweetass moves.....he'll get my dollar.
If you're just sitting in a chair (regardless of if it has wheels or not) & you just expect me to throw something in your cup because you have a paperbag hat.....
Sorry, man.

Once we got to Newbury Comics, I tried on stupid glasses:

Matthew bought some accessories (hat & glasses) to help him blend in with the locals.

I bought a bowler and nerd glasses.

Then we wandered over to Fenway to see if the sticker we put there the night before had lasted 24hrs.

Which was quickly followed by a trip to Lansdowne to drown our sorrows with some brews and pub chips with this badass blue cheese sauce/dip stuff.  It was pretty fuckin' good.
Bova met us down there & we headed over to The Bodega.
The front room looks like a shitty bodega with interesting knick-knacks, drinks, & snacks available for late night drunken purchases.  But then you step on a tile in front of that drink machine and a door opens into this pretty ass showroom for designer sneakers, watches, and a selection of outerwear.
After poking around in there, we wandered into a nearby halloween store where we tried on masks, I fondled a giant glittery stuffed penis, & Bova was asked if he was a member of the aryan race because of the t-shirt he was wearing.

We left and headed towards Solas for clubs, cubans, beers, & people watching.

Wrapped up there and stopped into a cigar bar for some dranks and smokes.  Had some nice chats and our waitress showed us her shoes that she bought at Marshalls.
We hung out there for a bit and then wandered back down to McGreevy's for a beer before calling it a night, said our goodbyes, and going back to the hotel room.

When we got back to the hotel room, the Michigan/Notre Dame game was still on and was still close enough to be pretty damn exciting, so we decided to grab a night cap (shot of jager) down at the sports bar before really calling it a night.

The next marnin', we enjoyed a breakfast buffet where Matthew caught a ciabatta roll on fire, we spied on a guy who looked like a mightymightybosstone, and remembered that it was September 11th.
At the airport, we grabbed a spot at the skyclub for an hour or so, left the skyclub, grabbed a beer & a lobster roll at the Harpoon joint by the gate, boarded the plane......

Sat on the plane for an hour without it moving.

Got off the plane and went back to the Harpoon joint to grab another brew and got to chatting with some nice folks from Michigan who were also delayed.  We talked about beer and rugby.
Then it was finally time to get back on the plane and were able to leave without any more delays.

The End.

Suckit Saturday - The Deck

Just realized that I forgot to post "after" pics when the deck was finished.

But for now....
Enjoy this.

WTH Weds - Boston Highlights Pt. 1

Friday marnin', we hit the skyclub to see what the haps was.  They'd hooked Matt up with at least a day pass and we drank brunch & had snacks.  The rosemary seasalt crackers are pretty badass.
For crackers, I mean.  They were/are the shit.
Matthew's been eating them for days.  Pretty sure he'll come home smellin' like rosemary.
I ain't mad at that.

Anyway, our flight was delayed so we facebooked & crap.
Hopped the flight, grabbed a cab.  He overcharged us to the hotel and we got checked in.
Props to the Marriott Copley.  Great spot.  Nice "sports bar" & breakfast buffet.

Here's what our view looked like from the room:

It was the only photo I took with the canon.
I took the entire camera bag with me, but didn't take the camera out on adventures.  Couldn't be bothered to.  I did get some kickass footage of the Murphys show.

Which was fuckin' AWESOME.
Fenway was cool.  Boston in general is cool.
I told Matthew it was my 2nd favorite city.  He didn't ask me what the 1st was.....he'd assumed it was NYC.
NYC has been bumped to #3, sadly.
Amsterdam being the first.
Boston #2. (haha.....number 2.  that's poo)
Its the combination of smaller town with big city urban feel.
The top 2 feel like big small towns to me.
If that makes sense.
I rarely do.

Anyway, back to the show.
MightyMighty Bosstones were playing when we hopped out the cab from McGreevy's (pregame car bombs).
The stage was set up in centerfield.
It looked like this:

We found an empty row and counted scally caps.
When the Bosstones were done kickin' everyone's ass, we made a pee/beer run.
The bathroom had a long line & smelled like snax while "no smoking" signs were posted about.
My stall didn't have a latch.
Found the friends and grabbed some brews.
Found our empty row again.
There was a bloke who looked slightly like Warren Ellis with a very long ponytail & a hat.
He appeared to not be having a good time.
We included him in on our fun.

Although I don't think he was as amused as we were.
The Murphys came out along the green monster wall with bag pipes playing.
The moon was almost full and a breeze was blowin'.
I gotta admit, I got a little teary eyed.
Shut up, I'm a girl.  I'm allowed to do that.

The stage backdrop was the skeleton pipes player, same as the shoes that Matthew got me.
We jumped & sang along & swayed with beer & threw our fists in the air & yelled....
and it was heavenly.

Afterwards, we walked back to Whiskey's and had some killer $.99 pizza & put a sticker on an armadillo.
The End of Part 1.

TT - 3rd Class Review

Last night, teacher Sally's husband, Tom Sadler, came in and gave us an oil demo for underpainting (similar to what I'd posted last week, so you and I are already up on things.  you're welcome).  He spent the first hour going through that and also did an acrylics demo.

Show off.

You can see Cupiedoll lady over there on the left.  She only got on Tom's nerves once.  And I must say her painting looks pretty damn good.  She's SUPER impatient & likes to skip ahead.

Here's what my "October Barf" painting looks like after class #3.  I'm happy with how the sky turned out.  I added back some of my darker tones and fixed my greens.

In class, we added sky and went back over the greens and played with the mucky water and stuff.  Sally sounded pretty unhappy with how we left things after last week's class.  Everyone's wipeouts were a mess and she's just as frustrated with this demo painting as we are and a lot of us are ready to move on.  We'll spend another 30mins on this one to wrap shit up next week and then get started on a VanGogh.  I might finish this one off at home before class.

In other news, after last week's class, I started an underpainting for Snoop face.  Based on this photo:

It looks like this so far:
so sinister
I think I made his nose too long.  Eh, I can fix it in post.
Also, there was a LOT of cussing during this process.
A.  LOT.

In other OTHER news, we leave tomorrow for Boston, so I'm takin' the next few days off and will catch up with you turds on Sunday night or Monday.
Or whenever I feel like it.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND AND SHIT!!!

Also - Rise of Nightmares

VERY excited about this game.  I hope it doesn't suck.

Here, this one has funny music and more blood-n-guts.

And this one gives you a fun little story.

I saved the best one for last.

Sunday Confession on Tuesday

This is what Matthew looks like with a giant chocolate covered rice krispy treat.

Here are some dumb doodles on an Alehouse napkin from the other night.

We also drew vegetables on an HOB kids' place mat with crayons but my phone was dead at that point - so no pictures.  Sad. :(

We got some Odd stickers.
I left one in our hotel room freezer.
You can probably tell where this will be leading.
Especially when we're in Boston this weekend for Dropkick Murphys at Fenway Park.
