WhateverThe Hell Wednesday 6 - Update
Some of you remember this post...
If you don't...have a good time reading that crap.
If you do...then I'll be happy to report that Matt just added me back as a facebook friend.
It only took 2 months for him to notice.
Childish curiosity satisfied.
It is nice to have his facebookery back. I missed his 20 posts a day.
Moving on...

Movie Monday - Pirates 4: On Stranger Tides

The mermaids sold me.
And Ian McShane who kicks ass in everything he does.
While this felt like the last hoorah for the franchise, it kept the fun going and still left some openings for more story, although Matthew said he heard that Johnny Depp wasn't doing another one.
I can imagine that character would get tiresome after 8 years.
This one wasn't the complicated over-cgi'd craziness the last one was.
It had a nice pace you could follow without there being 5 different story lines jammed in.
The only other recurring characters besides Jack, was Gibbs (the mutton chops dude), Barbosa, & you see that damn monkey, too.
Keith Richards made his appearance as well...briefly.
Did I mention the mermaids?
They had fangs.
And there were hundreds of them.
I give this movie 3 out of 5 mermaid tears.
HOLY CRAP...the first movie to not get 4 out of 5 somethings.

Sunday Confession - Mermaids
I love mermaids.
NERD!!!
Shut up, I know.
I have that tattoo on my ankle proclaiming said love.
When I was little, during my birthday and the candle blowing out thing....I would always wish to either be a mermaid or be able to fly.
In the pool, me & April would play mermaids and fought over who got to be named "Bubbles"*....for whatever childish reason.
I've always wanted to be able to breathe underwater and last summer contemplated making one of these for myself. But who wants to see a fat mermaid?
Actually...now that I think about it....
I kinda do.
That shit would be funny.
For my birthday coming up, Pannacakes got me these fun mermaid paperdoll-like magnet things:
So you can imagine my excitement over seeing the latest mermaidy Pirates 4 trailer for the movie that came out this weekend.

And then you can also imagine what tomorrow's Movie Monday is gonna be about.

Sleigh Bells - Treats

If you want BIG-HUGE-LOUD-assault-your-senses jams to bump to, this is exactly that.
And perfect for Fridays.
Upon listening to any of the songs off this album, you immediately feel like a badass.
The only fault with the record is that if you listen to it on loop (the way I do when my grubby hands snag something new)....The songs start to run together.
Its better to pepper them into a shuffle or playlist.

Movie Monday - Thor

They look kinda dumb, right?
Have you played Ultimate Alliance and heard that stupid voice saying things like "By the power of Asgard!" and "How dare you strike the son of Odin!"?? You know how cheesy that all sounds??
Yeah. Me too.
Which is why I thought this movie was more than likely going to suck.
But it didn't.
Not at all.
I had no idea how anyone could've made a "Rainbow Bridge" cool....but it totally fuckin' worked.
Even my boyfriends were awesome in it:
Even though he fucked up, he still saved the day.
Hemsford is gawdamn dreamy and should ALWAYS be shirtless.
During the beginning, at one point I leaned over to Matt and said, "Thor's kind of a douche..." forgetting that he was cast out of Asgard for a reason.
Great flick - way better than it had any right to be.
I give this movie 4 out of 5 hammers.
Looking at the cast list for The Avengers, I'm getting excited already.
There's only 1 year left to wait!!
Sploosh!!!
Captain America comes out in July.....so there's that to hold us over until next summer's hero extravaganza.

Also: my apologies, but Green Lantern looks absolutely ridiculous.

They Might Be Giants - Flood

Following up Throwback Thursday with a little throwback Friday Jams.
Take THAT, Licia & April!!!
Just recently told Willie to download this album for his daughter, Jemara, cuz she would really dig it.
Definitely an album worth passing on to children. Since they're the future and shit.
TMBG do a lot of kids tunes and learning songs and crap now.
John Linnell also did the song that was in Coraline.
I have a ton of TMBG songs that make me happy.
They're just a happy band.
And with that - hope you had a happy Friday 13th!!

Throwback Thursday 4
Catching up from last week when I failed to post anything due to having a shitty week & not feeling like putting forth any effort here.
Glad you noticed.
I present to you 2 entries from my old DOS WordPerfect journal.
December 7, 1992:
I was sick at home for most of the day, except for my last hour class: Science. I only went for that class to take a test because otherwise it would've been an essay test. Lord knows I ain't gonna do that.
While I was at home I watched the Joan Rivers show. Marky Mark was on. The whole thing was about sex and sex oriented. Not just a segment, but the whole show. Why are people so intrigued with sex? MaDonna would say, "Why is anyone? Why are you?" I think she has a very good point.
I talked to my dearest friend, Cortney, and we were talking about embarrassing moments. I haven't had any major humiliating episodes, but the people in some of my magazines have. Most of them, I think, just make up stuff and hope that their story gets in the mag. Stuff about farting at a boyfriend's house or getting their periods at a very crucial moment. Its kinda immature to send that sort of stuff in. I'm just glad they don't have the stupidity to send their names along with it and that the editors protect their identities. That's kind of them. Otherwise they would ruin these peoples' reps, such as I imagine they are.
I want to tell you that this is my first attempt to keep a real journal about me and the goings on of this day and age. I've tried to keep up with journals before but they kind of got boring after a while. Some didn't even make any sense. I want this one to be special. I want to have someone else read it in the next generation and the generation after that. I hope its that interesting.
Let me introduce you to my family by telling you a little bit about everyone.
My family is very close knit. We share a lot together. The close knit part of us all live here in FL. The farthest way to go to get to a family member's house is to Daytona.
OK, now here's my family [goes on to name names like a family tree].
There, that's my family. My friends...they're a different story. I can tell you about my closest ones. My first real bestest friend is April. She lives in Ocala now so we're not really that close anymore. I've known her since Kindergarten. Then there's Alicia. She moved to Winter Park and lives with her mom. I really ought to write to her. Thanks for reminding me. We try to keep in touch every now and then, if we're not too busy. Then I would hafta say that the most best friend that I feel really close to and have the most in common with is Cortney. We have the greatest times and the worst outcomes. We are trying to plan a bonfire/xmas party and we hope to have everyone there. I'll keep ya posted!

I cried watching the news tonight.
Those people in Somalia are really suffering. And for what? Starving people have done nothing to deserve what treatment they're getting. I don't understand.

Mondays Suck
We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this important message about a 4 day weekend in Toronto.
We flew out Thursday morning and when we got to the airport, Matthew was upset that the airport bar was closed - we settled for coffee & bought a bloody mary & a vodka/cran in flight.
Had a stop in Atlanta & grabbed a beer there.
When we got to Toronto, we hopped a cab to the hotel, checked in, got an upgrade, stopped for another beer & when we got to our room, this view welcomed us....
Shortly after bliss, The Balls welcomed us with open arms.
They actually have the only good picture taken of us as we were leaving the hotel for Pier 4.
Where we were finally able to get Matthew some Jager, had a pint, and ordered some of the best fish'n'chips EVAR. Made with halibut.
Later on, we walked around Rogers Stadium and the CN tower and found a corner bar to get pissed in. We made right asses of ourselves....including Kim putting sour cream on my nose and me licking it off (talent)....which was, of course, immediately followed by a fellow bar patron asking for a repeat performance so he could take a picture (fame).
After we taught the bar staff how to make Washington Apple shots (notoriety)(they mistakenly forgot the apple schnapps), we left and found a dog walker in the park & got her dogs riled up and prevented her from moving on about her way.
This was followed by a slight & failed attempt at playing cards with a spiced rum/root beer nightcap.
This night ended in pass out.
We woke up on day 2, got our free breakfast that was included in our upgrade, and then met up with The Balls to walk down to St. Lawrence Market which looked like this:
If you're done rolling around in that delightfulness, we'll move on. If not, feel free to linger.....
Steve & Kim regaled us with tales of "peameal bacon" rolls....which is cured ham rolled around in a fine cornmeal, sliced, & usually grilled, then stuffed into a soft fresh baked roll. They'd waited a whole year to have a bacon roll from the market so we were there to witness their reunion.
We wandered around and Matthew found some samples of a bacon "jam" or spread that was paired with a soft cheese served on a small cracker. We have a jar sitting in our fridge currently. We also bought a bag of cheese curds to snack on while walking around.
There was so much wonderful foods to look at - I could seriously go on and on here, but will save you the reading.
Once we left heaven....we walked through a church garden and snapped some photos:
The only thing to do after this was visit a brewery and wander around Yonge square - similar to Times Sq.
Later on, we went beer shopping for that evening when we were to be hangin' out with a local and eating pizza. Wandered through a LBCO and discovered how expensive it is to be a drunk in Canadia.
$13friggin' for a 6pack of Steam Whistle.
This night finished out with 2 quick rounds of Bastard* and a cranky boy.
After the cranky boy went to sleep, I picked up 4 tickets to the 4pm BlueJays/Tigers game for the following day.
Woke up on Day 3, revealed said surprise to a now noncranky boy, went and had upgrade package free breakfast (equipped with peameal bacon), and went to meet Steve at the pool for a swim & a hot tub soak.
We met a fella who was also attending the baseball games (I'd told Steve about the surprise tickets just minutes before) & we all commiserated about expensive beer.
Once dressed and ready to go, we hopped atop a double decker tour bus and rode about the city.
This was the last photo we were able to squeeze out of the canon before the battery died (dumbass me forgot the charger).
At least it gives you an idea of our last minute score on tickets. The Tigers pitcher had an almost perfect game. Matthew was excited and kept trying to explain to Steve & Kim why that was such a big deal.
We walked back over to Pier 4 for more drinks, a cigar, appetizers, & then Matthew and I stopped at a shawarma joint for wraps. We met Steve & Kim back at theirs for another beer and a chat before crashing out.
The next morning, Day 4, the final day.....went down for free breakfast, packed, dropped our luggage & checked in for our flight home. Went on a boat ride around the harbour & grabbed some poutine and a few pints at an irish pub before buying our bus ride to the airport and heading out.....
I would show you pictures of this but the battery died, remember??
BUT I do have video to share as soon as that comes together.
-----------------------------------------
*I haven't been able to find a good rundown online about how to play by The Balls' rules....which leads me to believe they've made this game up.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones

And when Karen O speaks, you have no choice but to listen.
If you turds live under a rock and don't know YYYs, you might recognize her voice from the "Where The Wild Things Are" movie soundtrack, but I think at this point their songs have been around in commercials and on RockBand and stuff, so its hard to not be aware of them.
Show Your Bones was the 2nd album from the trio.
All their albums are effing wonderful. I love them all equally. They should have another one coming out pretty soon. The last one came out in 2009. Would be nice to hear something new from them.
Matt, Pannacakes, & I went to see them back in...shit....2003?
At The Social downtown.
Matt drank himself sick (not the barfy kind) on PBRs that night and talked to Karen O.
We looked like this:
----------------------------
*Chose not to use "Warrior" for the blog cuz you can look it up for yourself. Seriously, if you haven't listened to YYYs before, do yourself a favor. Your earholes will thank you....
