The Kills - Blood Pressures

I love music.
Anyone who hates music is a vegetable.
No....even vegetables react to music.
Maybe...a rock.
No, a rock will at least vibrate and is usually followed up by "roll".
Mosquitos. Yeah, I fuckin' hate mosquitos. They're completely useless.
Anyone who hates music is a damnass mosquito.

Yeah, its late and yeah, I've had a couple of drinks....and listening to this right now is makin' me dance in my chair.
So what?
(Just now realizing its kinda loud and Matthew is to bed already.*)
Heh...That's what, I guess.

The Kills rock my socks off.
Seriously...I'm not wearing any socks.

The more I listen to this one, the more I like it.
Although, "The Last Goodbye" and "Wild Charms", I'm not too wild about. They're kinda sleepy.
"Wild Charms" is like White Stripes Meg's "Cold Cold Night" but dude form for The Kills.

Midnight Boom is still my favorite album.

*Don't be mad, Matthew. If you woke up or were bugged by it, I'll put 2 more mins in the bank. But only if your slumber was ruined.

WhateverTheHell Wednesday 2

This week's been rough so far. YARGH!!!
There's nothing to look forward to this weekend the way there had been the past two weeks, so I don't have that carrot dangling in front of me to keep me moving forward.
Although, we go to Toronto next week.....so there's that to look forward to.

And there's Weird Science over at Enzian tonight. yay!
They tried to do it last month but got stormed out.

We went to see Face/Off there last night.
That's my favorite Nick Cage movie, if there is such a thing. (Adaptation doesn't count cuz that was a really good flick.)
Most people say, "Raising Arizona", but I've never seen it from beginning to end....only in bits, and those bits didn't seem that interesting for whatever reason.

You know what does look interesting??
The latest Mortal Kombat.
Our copy should be here in the next day or so.
Anything that looks like this has got to be a winner.

mmmmKneecapnomnomnom

C'mon, baby - don't lose your head over this. Oh....damn....

And as a side note, I'm just now realizing that when my page pops up, the embedded videos are getting chopped in half.
That sucks.
Hopefully, you're savvy enough to know that you can click the title and it'll take you to youtube to view full frame, but it'd be nice to be able to see ALL the crap I post here instead of just half the crap.
So, I'll be fixing that this week.

Anything else?....
Comments, questions.....???
Dismissed.

Movie Monday - The Other Guys

Happy Monday.
Bleh.

I didn't watch any movies over the weekend since we were at the beach, so today I'm serving up some Netflix streaming goodness.

The opening scene with Sam Jackson & The Rock is effing funny....ridiculous....but funny.

Will Ferrell is a genius.
To be able to play both the straight man and the funny man at the same time??? Effing brilliant.
Mark Wahlberg is funny in this too. He plays angry funny really well. Like in The Departed. His scenes with Alec Baldwin in that flick made me el oh el.
Its also nice to see Michael Keaton again. Been a while.

Cheers to using Foo Fighter's "Hero" in the best scene of the whole movie which was about 15mins in. I laughed so friggin' hard no sound came out.
The silent fight also caused the same reaction but more so because I was trying to be quiet too.

The only part that pissed me off was when Marky Mark & Eva Mendes call Will Ferrell "sugarballs"...cuz that's what I call Matthew.* Shoulda trademarked that shit.

Another Cheers for using White Stripes "Icky Thump" for the conference room shootout scene.

And a standing ovation for the lesson in ponzi schemes, bail outs, & CEO salaries which was accompanied by charts & graphs while Rage Against the Machine's "Maggie's Farm" played during the end credits.

There's a cute little bonus scene at the end, too.

I give The Other Guys 4 out of 5 wooden guns.

*Matthew, don't be mad. I'll make it up to you with 3 minutes put back in the bank. ;)

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

There have been a shit-ton of great albums droppin' recently.
When starting this weekly menu for posting, it wasn't really with an eye for only focusing on new releases.....but DAMN - when they're this good....how can you NOT say something about it?

And, here.....you can watch/listen to them play the whole album:

Question: How have the Foo Fighters not been asked to do a Superbowl halftime show??*
Instead we get stuck with the LameAssPeas.

These guys fuckin' rock and if you haven't seen their Wembley Stadium show that Palladia runs from time to time, do it - Jimmy Page comes out and plays with them and its UH-mazing.
Chills even.
-------------------------------
*On the topic of them playing a Superbowl show.
Glad I'm not the only one.
  1. From this year. #5 on that list.
  2. From last year. #1 on that list.
  3. Also from last year.
  4. And you can join it on Facebook.

THROWBACK Thursday

You like that?
I changed it.
Cuz this is my blog and I can do that.

Here's a paper I found from my first year over at Valencia Community College in 1997.
What a n00b.

ENC1101.WO33
August 28
Diagnostic Assessment

I don't have a lot of writing experience.
I graduated high school in 1996 with English IV Honors, but even in there we didn't do much writing. I've kept a journal for 4 years, if that counts.
I'm not too sure on what I'm expecting from this course. I'd like to improve my writing ability and be more able to put my thoughts on paper.
I've never been told I had any writing strengths.(1) I try to make my writing look good and I proofread to make sure it sounds good. Everyone does that. So, I honestly don't think I have any "strengths" in my writing. Maybe I could find out if I do contain some by taking this course.(2)
As far as writing weaknesses, I could give a whole list of them. It takes me a long time to think of how to start. I have a hard time with transferring what's in my head and putting it on black and white. I also try hard to make my writing sound intelligent, but when I read over it, it doesn't sound as great as I think it should. (3)
**********************
(1) Teacher's note: "That's sad!"
(2) Teacher's note: "You most certainly will!!"
(3) Teacher's note: "Perhaps you are too hard on yourself."

She also marked all of my contractions, took out the "But" I'd had in there before "Everyone does that.", and changed "in black and white" to "on black and white".....which I still hate.
No one says, "ON black & white"....duh. I get the point, but it hurts my eyes to read.

I got a +10.

(why can you not flip photobooth pics in iphoto?? dammit.)

WhateverTheHell Wednesday

....or something....

Why is Wednesday being such a bitch for this daily crap thing I'm trying to do?
I had thought it could be a current event day but that seems kinda boring.
Y'all can read/watch the news for that shit.

We got a lot of funny camping footage from last weekend that I'm editing together. That'll probably take another week before it turns into anything though. Didn't realize we'd captured so much.
Being drunk with the camera has a tendency to do that.
-----------------------
(...Later...)
And now, since going to lunch & brainstorming, I have a homework project to work on for tomorrow's crap.

So, please peruse this picture of my shadow puppet puppy that I plucked while peeing post-lunch earlier this quite perspiringly parching afternoon.
(That, my friends, is alliteration.)

Youtube Tuesday

Seriously - I have no idea how Tuesdays should go except the intent being to share a youtube video with you.
If I knew you turds would play along, I'd do a poll and you could decide for yourselves.
But since you only comment on the posts where I'm not asking for your opinions (which I find totally fitting), we can skip that dumb idea and accept that this won't be a democracy.

If it sucks, it can always be changed to somethingelse Tuesday.
We're still in beta testing, right?
Plus, Tuesdays are the redheadedbastard stepchild of the week anyways.

So....here we go. Ready?? Enjoy.

Movie Monday - Insidious

We went to see this flick last weekend but since we were out being damn dirty hippies this weekend, I saved it for today and the first movie Monday blah blah blah.

Being a massive horror fan, I'm always slightly skeptical of the PG-13 flicks that show you all the cool stuff in the trailer and the rest of the movie turns out to be lame.
So, I wasn't really too excited to see it until I'd seen it was getting decent reviews.
A fresh tomato even!!
I didn't know anything about the movie going in and was just hoping it would make us jump a few times.
We walked into the theater and there was a good crowd...more people = more chances of screaming.

First let me say - the opening credits were great!!
Old school black & white haunted house type images with a giant title in creepy font with loud scary screeching violin noises.
Perfect way to set the mood at the beginning.

Without giving away anything - I thought this movie was super fun.
Reminded me of being 11 and watching Poltergeist again with my BFF and we'd hide our faces in pillows and scream during the scary parts.
Lots of good jumps and some creepy ass images.
Like this one which caught me off guard and made me shut my eyes:

Watch out, Nite Owl - he's right behind you!!

Great movie for fun jumps and screams.
Also, a good one for trying out the popcorn trick.
I give this movie 4 out of 5 scary red demon faces.

********SPOILERS***********
There were a couple of groaners - (1) the 2 ghost busters that get called in for comic relief were kinda dumb, but still a nice nod to movies like Poltergeist, and (2) The gas mask thing & the dream realm called "The Further" was a tad silly but easy to get over once the demons came out and scared the shit out of you.

And this stuff because it did absolutely nothing.

Suckit Saturday???

Haven't decided what to do on Saturdays yet, but it'll be whatever I want it to be dammit.

We're headed out to Sebastian Inlet today to go camping, so here's a photo of the neighborhood hens I'd posted a message about on facebook after that crazyass storm we had on 3/30.

And now the neighbor ladies (hens) are out surveying the damage.

Snoop Dogg-Doggumentary

Welcome to the first Friday Jams!!
Here's the damn deal.
I pick an album to rock out on a Friday with & my favorite song from that album will be linked to at the beginning so your earholes will be just as entertained as your eyeballs as you keep reading.
Consider it interactively multitasking.
You're welcome.
When I post one of your favorite albums - post your favorite song from that album/artist in the comments.
Cuz sharin' is karen and in a year we'll all have a badass playlist that we all contributed to.
Shut up, it'll be fun.

Now that all that crap is out of the way....

I can't stop bobbin' my head to this damn album lately.*
Which is perfect because of last summer's addiction to old Snoop & Dre while sitting around the pool or going to the beach.
Now there's more to add to that for this summer.
And this new one flows really nice with the old stuff.*
Plus, there's Willie Nelson AND Bootsy Collins and there is no possible way on this greenish, blueish, brownishEARF that you can keep from smiling when you hear Boosty say in his Bootsy way "baby" or "mama" which usually sounds like it starts with "b".

Its fuckin' Friday, baby.....and happy hours are only hours away, bmama.

____________________________
*There is one exception. The Kanye song made me stop bobbin' in my head bobbin' tracks. It was so bad my neck was confused. Also, it does not flow nicely with the old stuff. His sound is too emo to blend with gfunk.
Neither does Wet. So that's 2 exceptions. whatever.
And Willie (Not Nelson) - as far as the RKelly song goes: Yeah, its RKelly & a stupid song but the beat is pretty bangin'.
____________________________
ALSO: I dare you to listen to any Snoop Dogg song while looking at this face and fail to understand why his name is Snoop.

BadA$$ 4Life.

A Very Special Thanks Goes Out To

The two treadmill ladies who talked through almost the entire second half of Megamind in the cardio theater at the gym the morning of 4/13.

Nevermind the fact that there's a whole massive EMPTY gym *points with an exaggerated flail* OUT THERE that ISN'T watching a movie where you can talk and talk and talk your little old hearts out without forcing a small room with a handful of people watching a movie to listen to your droning on.

But, seriously, thank you Loud Ladies Gabbington, for telling me & the 3 other people in the theater where all of your jewelry is in your closet & catching us up on the past week of your lives.

Back To Normal, I Guess & Other News

You may or may not have noticed that we're in mid April and I haven't blogged much.
Pretty sure you didn't care.
But I'll tell you why anyway.

DAY JOB!!
There's a funny little phenomenon that happens in the corporate/sales world every 3rd month.
Its called End of Quarter or EOQ.
During the last 2 weeks of every 3rd month, everyone in sales & sales operations runs around like bees are chasing them as they try to scramble & close their larger deals that have been rotating in the sales cycle for months on end.
If we get these deals in just before the buzzer on the final day - it makes people look like heroes.
If we get these same sort of deals in at the beginning of the quarter, people don't make as big of a deal about it.

I don't know why this happens - but it does.
Consistently.
Every.
Third.
Month.

So, between March 21 & April 1, I worked damn near close to 160hrs.
There's not a whole lot to talk about when one is working that much.
All work and no play makes Karen a BoringAssBitch.
The only fun that was had during the weeks in there was a dinner date to see Animal House outside at Enzian (& not counting weekend funs like Playlist Live, etc).
Then we had a crazy ass storm that knocked our power out for 2 or 3 days and the crazy ass hours I would've spent working from home, I had to work at the office.
*huff*

So last week, when the dust was settling from EOQ.....I started to get sick with a head cold.
Lots of sleep and chicken soups later, I feel much better & can finally breathe through BOTH of my nostrils. Although, this phlegm is STILL annoying the snot out of me.
....haha....snot, get it?

With us now caught up....I've recently been brainstorming about how fuckin' rad it would be to blog more consistently and thought it might be easier if it were mapped out.

Such as:

Sunday Confessions.
Movie Monday.
Youtube Tuesday.
Current Event Wednesday.
Thursday Thank Yous.
Friday Jams.
Saturday-day off?? or something completely random.

Haven't quite decided yet but that's what I've come up with so far and it may or may not start tomorrow.
Only one way to find out how it'll go, you know.
The suspense has GOT to be absolutely killing you.

If it goes well & I can keep up with it, this may turn into a vlog.
HOLY CRAP - YOU MIGHT GET TO SEE MY FACE!!
....maybe....
We can cross that bridge when we get to it.
