Holy Gawd - The End. 5.30.2010

Holy Gawd - I'm trying to remember the last time I was this tired.
Its about 4:00 a.m.
Our flight leaves at 5:30a.m.
Johnny had his buddy pick us up & drive us around the city.
We met up with John somewhere by the Empire and stopped for a beer/cider. Was nice to chat w/him.
We're friggin' zombies.
I stink.
My shoes have something growing in them.
Shroom farm.
Going through security was a test for everyone.
Considering I've been wearing them for 27ish hrs, it could've been worse, I guess.
My eyeballs feel like.....
......something really dry & irritated....
Like my skin.

I just dropped this & whined.

Home.
Shower.
Sleep.

Meatbeef & Bananas - 5.28.10

There ain't no party like a meatbeef party cuz a meatbeef party don't stop.

This is the first morning all week that I've woken up w/a fuzzy head.
Matt went to the shop outside & picked up some ciabatta bread & beer to go w/our leftover brie.
Its the breakfast of champions.
Champions who totally watched a banana being eaten out of a hooha last night.

Those Baba brownies were fuckin' good!
Dick was all like, "You guys are all mellow and cool...."
I had to remind him that our tolerance level was way higher than his & Miss Pussy's.
Although, me & Miss Pussy did have a HUGE case of uncontrollable giggles....

I cried at one point cuz I was laughin' so much when that chick did the marker thing.
Between each funny banana/marker/headdong trick...they'd do hot (and not so) couples just all out fuckin'.
Impressive positions.
Some we're STILL tryin' to figure out so we can try them at home.
...Or later this afternoon.
Dick said we could MST3K the show.
I told him that we all could open our own show & do whatever the fuck we wanted.
Miss Pussy would be a good dancing girl.
After a chair or pole dance class, we'd be set!

They [Dick & Miss Pussy] had to get up early this a.m. for a train going to Belgium.
Hope they made it ok.

Trying to figure out what to do today.
What do we need to see on our last whole day here?
I kinda want a pair of boots & some leggings. Like everyone else is wearing.

The Canal & VanGogh - 5.27.2010

Yesterday, Matt & I were wandering in the same area we're sitting in right now - at a place called Pancakes!
We ate one yesterday too...pancake, that is.
When we stopped for Jager shots, we ate a Canadian pancake.Just saw a black woman with a hightop fade walk by.
But back to yesterday....

Matt & I wandered through here after eating muffins & drinkin' coffee in Dam Square. Aimlessly really. Then down to Leidseplein where we were looking for Eyders? brown bar.
Couldn't find that spot, but stopped at a place where we got stuck in the doors. Matt ate raw oxtail - I had brie & cucumber.Went to Rockerij for some Laughing Buddha and then headed over to Boom Chicago to meet up with Dick & Miss Pussy for the boat trip.
The men hunted & gathered up some meatbeef & cheese & brew. The boat driver met us & got pissed off when a girl asked if he was the "tour guide". He was from Chicago. The 3 girls that were with us were from the same area. And then us.
Canal trip was GREAT! Saw some really cool bldgs & churches.

(All the dogs here still have their big bouncing balls.)
Distracted.

The canal water is poo water. That's why there's so much green lining everything close to them.
After the boat trip, we stopped for those Jager shots & pancakes. After that, we went back to the hotel to reload.
OH WAIT!! No we didn't!! I forgot - we took Dick & Miss Pussy over to Rockerij for some Xmas Pollen and Jack Herrer! HA!! Hung out there and had juice.THEN we went back to the hotel to reload.
Then we took them over to Greenhouse. Ate there & stuff.
It was freakin' fantastic.

They gave us some shit about leaving to go have sex, so we left to go have sex. BDAY NOOKIE!!
I think Dick & Miss Pussy headed over to the RLD to pick up a hooker.
Or watch donkey sex.
Goats.
Bananas.

We're thinking of going to Casa Rosso tonight.

Started with Pancakes! and now (after lots of walking and the Van Gogh) we're at Pancake Corner. 3rd time we've been here. They have 10 shots of Jager for 10euro.
That's the main reason. OH! And you can get pitchers. Very American style.
Anyway - Van Gogh was super cool.
I really like his earlier stuff. Around the Potato Eaters time.
I don't like pointilism much - I find it annoying. So that time frame doesn't appeal to me as much but I can appreciate the evolution of his personal style & technique. Love the way he shapes eyes & faces - body proportion. Almost animation/comic book style. Then he went and got all dottie with points & lines & strokes.
Then he went crazy & shot himself & died 2 days later with his brother beside him....So atleast he had that going for him.
10 SHOTS OF JAGER!!
AGAIN!!
Currently waiting for Dick & Miss Pussy to get done with their city bike tour.
HA! - Just remembered that after the flower market today, we stopped for a pint of Strongbow at a place called BALLS!The flower market was really pretty.(1)
You can get black tulips.
The colors are amazing. (2)
Little cacti in neon colors. (3)

(4)
ANIMAL GOODBYES.
Casa Rosso was AMAZING!!
Seriously, I've never been so happy in my entire life as when a woman wrote "SEXY BABY" on a man's chest in magic marker using her vagina.
Brownies at Baba.
Drinks & shots @ Durty Nelly's.
------------------------------------------------
(1) Unfortunately, blogger is being picky about what pictures I can upload but I can't figure out why right now.
(2) I believe this has to do with the poopoo water in the canals. Its good for plants.
(3) See note #1
(4) This was a drunken note I left myself after the show, right when we got back to the room.

Bday...Briefly - 5.26.2010

Happy Birthday to me.
Doesn't feel like my birthday.
We're doing that canal thing later.
And I wanna do that Dungeon thing.
Maybe go shopping.

Hell's Angel & Poe - 5.25.2010

Dick & Miss Pussy have butt issues from Morocco.
Apparently, so did one of the Hell's Angels that crossed a canal with us, while walking through the RLD, who waited until he was next to Dick before farting.
One of them said, "Ha! Nice...keepin' it romantic."

Did the Rijksmuseum. That was boring.
This was my favorite piece.
The museum made me sleepy. One can look at paintings of fat white men for only so long.
There were 2 big badass dollhouses. Those were cool.

We stopped in a market for beer & they had these beef roll-up things that Gram used to make.
I'm so friggin' Dutch....next to the German.

Stopped for food after at an Irish joint & a dude nodded at Matt's Hunter S. Thompson shirt. He said that Poe was his favorite, so I pointed out my Poe button on my hat and he made a sad puppy dog face, "I want one...." so I ended up giving him mine. He said it made his year. His name is Lee Williams and he told us he writes short stories and is talking to a "bloke" film maker from America. We swapped email addresses.(1)

We walked through the RLD & had sammiches & Hoegarden.
Then stopped at Jolly Joker for space muffins & White Widow.
Got the greatest cup o'koffie EVAR!!

Back at the hotel now to let Dick handle his bowels.
On our walk back to the hotel this afternoon we signed up for a canal cruise where you can bring all your own shit. We just went through a checklist.

HA! We're totally sitting in our room eating KFC & drinking beer.
(shut up, I know it's a repeat picture)

OH!! I forgot - while we were sitting in Jolly Joker, Dick leans over to Miss Pussy & says, "Well, should we go pick up some hookers?"
---------------------------------------------------
(1) He's since sent me a couple of his stories. Hit me up if you'd like to read his stuff.

BK & Falafel then Waffle - 5.24.2010

Today's Monday, right?
That bar last night kicked ass.
After it closed, we wandered around and got BK. (1)
It was the BEST BK Bing King EVAR!! I told Matt last night after the first few bites, that at home, we get shit for BK...but here....here, I totally get it.

Dick & Miss Pussy should be here now. I tried to wait up for them. Crashed around 3a.m.
Matt's still sleeping. When he gets up, I'll try to get a hold of them.

We put a bunch of music on a bitty drive to give to the bartender from Blarney Stone. So we'll be going back over there again today at some point.

Awfuck...Dick & Miss Pussy aren't coming in until TONIGHT....not last night.
I'm a dumbass.

Now we're sitting upstairs at Old Church like Bebb told us to. Jack Herrer. Matt did a fine job with the ghetto bill roll.

A little while ago I saw a pregger walkin' with a buddy and the buddy kicked a pigeon.

They have public urinals & the signs for directing you towards them has a little dude with a pee stream. BEST SIGN EVAR!!
Now we're sitting next door to the Banana show.
We saw a place that had a "Live Animal Sex!" show (among other varieties of sex shows)....but......animal.....? My first thought was "what kind of animal?"(2)
We're eating at some shaved meat kebab place & the dude up sold us on some meat platter.(3)
DAMN that shit was good.
While we were eating, I confessed that I'd probably be chickening out of going to see a sex show. I think it was cuz we came down here and saw it all during the day.
We'll come back at night.

We have the best view & people watching from our balcony.
Just saw a guy with dreads ride by on his bike while playing air drums.
Watched a pigeon cross the road on foot. It looked both ways.
I've seen lots of pantyhose on chicks. Usually a dark color. And SO many leggings. Shiny ones with ankle boots.
Guess what Matt's doing....
At the Greenhouse now. They have a koi pond in the floor.
We picked a "creative" flavor this time. Priciest one we've picked up so far. Called A-Ultra or something. Matt's skills have come back all the way. Its like riding a bike.
Got some peach ass nectar juice. Herb & juice - 2 great tastes that taste great together.
We should bring Dick & Miss Pussy here for lunch tomorrow.
I told Matt to look out the window he's sitting next to, which looks out onto the floor below.
He describes a thick black woman with long hair and a tall white dude. They're dancing and she's feeding him a danish or something & then making out and they're taking turns sucking down vaporized bags.(4)

We had a drink over at Trinity - same place we stopped at for a cider on our first day.
Sat on the side of the canal and watched people.

Now we're gonna go find an alley and look for late night munchies.

Dick & Miss Pussy will be here around 4a.m.

We ate a KICKASS falafel sammich & stopped for chocolate waffles. Chocolate waffles fuckin' rule.----------------------------------------------
(1) The only joints open late at night are american fast food places. At the BK there was this sleepy ass bastard. We kept seeing him the rest of the week...wondering around aimlessly & draggin' his luggage. Wonder what his story was. Should've stopped to ask.(2) The 2nd thought being, is it just....like, 2 goats gettin' busy on stage? Or actual interspecies? Later, Dick would ponder, "How do they get the animal to do it on demand??"
Across the street from that place we saw this sign in the window of a store: (3) The dude came up and we placed an order with him one at a time and then he told both of us, "No, I make this for you", pointed at a picture, took our menus and left. Why don't you go ahead and bring us whatever you want to, there, buddy. Nevermind our order. That shit was really f'n good. With garlic sauce....MMMM!! I ain't mad at him.
(4) A few minutes later, Matt offered to switch seats so I could watch the minishow. I wrote some crap down in his book. That little upside down bottle lookin' thing was supposed to be a vapo-bag. The circle up top is a euro I traced around. We ended up bringin' 3 of those suckers home cuz I'm horrible at math.

Winkel & Blarney - 5.23.2010

At Winkel cafe near a comic shop called Nou Moe Stripwinkel, which I believe, is somewhere behind where we're currently sitting. What's up with all the winkels?

Last night we saw our first red windows & its funny cuz I wanted to look and check them out (cuz that's what you do when you're looking through windows, right??) but at the same time I didn't want to ogle or be creepy. What the hell's the etiquette when looking at half naked women in red lit windows??

These same red windows also threw off my direction sense cuz we weren't in the area we thought they were all concentrated in. This was also after some Pure Haze at Abraxas, which I liked a little better than Bebb's Old Church.(1)
(yes, Bebb, that is your picture)
There, we'd gotten a blueberry tobacco blend to try & the girl was like, "Are you sure? American accents don't usually like with tobacco." She was right, but I'd still wanted to try it. I told the guy at Abraxas that I wanted to try everything. He thought that was funny.

I pronounce everything here wrong.(2)
Stupid American.

The hair dryer in our room is the worst, so no cute hair while here. And now it makes sense why everyone's hair looks kinda the same.
There are 2 buttons for the toilet flush but we can't figure out why, other than one for poo & one for pee but the flushes look pretty much the same.

We ate some shitty burgers, out of desperation. It had been about 12 hrs between meals & we didn't even care. It filled us up. Might've been horsemeat.

Just realized we aren't actually at Winkel - we're eating at a place next door-HA!
Stupid American.
This place is Noordwest.
Every outdoor seating area is separated by furniture style. We'd just grabbed open seats & ordered beer.

Grolsch in a glass has a Cap'n Crunch flavored aftertaste.

The weather is f'n perfect. Warmer today than yesterday.

There was a futbol game on last night & Italy won so there was lots of yelling and cheering in the square (close to our hotel/room). Was cool to hear.

American paranoia is interesting.
While walking the streets last night, we walked past some dudes that whistled a tune & Matt & I both had one of those "oh shit, they're in a gang" type thoughts just cuz we were walking down a street that wasn't heavy on foot traffic. It was in a dumb shopping area. There was a CROCs store for crying out loud. But we were ready. Good to be prepared, right? No matter how low the crime rate might be.

Saying "Thank You" sounds like "Owshbleeft". YAY I learned a word.(3)

Live music just started up close by - on a boat in the canal.
Jazz. Very strong here. More than any other type of music.(4)

I feel kinda dumb that I hadn't read the cityguide we bought before leaving. Its been really helpful as lame as that sounds. I was studying yesterday while Matt was napping.

We saw a bunch of bachelor parties yesterday too. They traveled in big groups and you could tell who the groom was by the dumb costume he was wearing.(5) We saw one dude in a country girl square dance outfit, another wearing an inflatable sumo wrestler suit, and another group was wearing all the same dirty McD's parody shirt except the groom's just said, "STAG" on the back of it. Guess those fellas didn't have much time to plan their trip or couldn't find a costume store.
We've seen lots of packs of women wearing white and silver. Silver sequins. And another big, probably English, group wearing feathers & smart shoes.

We were just discussing how you can pick out nationalities by looks. We've only seen a handful of Americans so far.

The muslim women are wearing beautiful fabrics and awesome shoes.

The dept store across the street is closing. It must be 6pm.

Black people also go to KFC here.

I think we've decided to set up shop in our room and sit at the balcony for when Dick* & Miss Pussy* arrive. Then we can yell and make it echo.

We found a great alley full of graffiti and took pictures.

The bells are ringing the hour in Dam Sq now.

The comic store we were going to check out earlier today was closed on Sundays.

Why do kids not go backpacking through America? Maybe cuz its so hard to get from city to city. Ground transport gets so expensive at home.

Yesterday our cab driver asked us about the BP oil spill.

There's a man that plays a metal xylophone outside our hotel.
He must be on a break or has shorter hours on Sunday cuz I don't hear him anymore.

Our bellman looks just like Rainn Wilson. He asked us if we were into hardcore cuz I was wearing black and Matt looks like satan. Then he threw the horns at us and said that he was.

Just before sunset, folks sit on the steps at the sq because the sun feels good.
Yesterday there was a sax player & bass player hangin' out & playing for everyone.

Just heard, Rhianna's "Rude Boy" out of someone's car.
And bike bells.
And the tram.
And a scooter.

We just ate some kick ass food at a place called Marrakesh.
Chicken couscous & some dough wrapped chicken & almond thing.

After eating we went walking through some streets we were in last night.
I stopped by an irish bar cuz it was playing a She Wants Revenge song & Matt said, "Do you want to go in?" And I said, "If I like the next song, we go in." Then, The Knife started up.
So now we're drinkin' Strongbow.

Unfortunately, Aerosmith's "Pink" came on after those 2 badass songs. But all was right when another She Wants Revenge song came up.
Some slow song came on after that and the bartender said, "Fuck off..." and started flippin' through her music & we made her stop on "Too Sexy" which was followed by an Amy Winehouse song.

This Brit is telling us about seeing Amy Winehouse live and said she was awesome and not completely shitfaced. He said he's also seen Daft Punk.
I think we found the right place.
The bartender and I were just talking about Dead Weather so she threw that on.
I told her about the new record and pulled my ipod out and we're listening to that now and more people just came in.
I love music.
Blarney Stone Irish Pub is the BEST!!
Especially if you have your ipod on you.
-------------------------------------
(1) Give me a break - this had been one of our first stops and at that point I was operating on 30some hours with no sleep. The Old Church is nice, but Abraxas is prettier.
(2) When we got off the train, we went walking a few blocks but I couldn't remember where the hotel was located or even what street it was on (cuz I'm a dumbass and left all that at home), so we caught a cab. He asked what hotel we were staying at and I was like, "Hotel Amsterdam." He shrugged his shoulders as if to say, "Yeah? Which one?" and I said, "De Roode Leeuw" like an American would. De Rude Lew. He perked up and said, "Oooooh!! De Roode Leeuw" the way you were supposed to say it. Which was more like De Roooowwwduh Louw. Later we found out that we were only 2 blocks away from the damn hotel when we picked up the cabbie.
(3) Except that every time I said it after that, people looked at me like I's retarded. The least they could've atleast given me a high 5. Damn. haha....dam. Get it??
(4) Except Michael Jackson.
(5) Later on, I read that stag/hen parties get special offers: the groom/bride get in free to Casa Rosso if they show up in costume.

*Names changed to protect silly identities. (haha..."tities".)

At London Gatwick airport - 5.22.2010

Gatwick airport having a Guinness at a bar called Lloyds No. 1.
It truly is No. 1.
It would figure that I'd start nodding off as we friggin' land.
Its about 3a.m. at home.
Matt was like, "I say that when we get checked into the hotel, we take an hour nap."
I said, "No. We didn't travel all this way to take naps."
He said, "Or we can crash at 9pm."
Which is fine by me on the first day in.
After some smoke & a pint.
Karen Happy.

(sorry to not have any pics to match up with this yet, we didn't take any of the way there.)

Over the Next Week,

I'll be sharing with you the stuff I wrote down while we were on our trip.
I did a lot of writing. An actual pen to paper kind of writing.
It felt good. Back to my roots - my days of journal writing when I used to keep up with it.

I think back in those days it had more to do with restlessness, insecurity, and, at times, working things out for myself during phases of general unhappiness.

This time around, for this trip, it was all about remembering details.

There are parts that are disjointed - quick little notes....some written while intoxicated so I could go back and flesh out the details the next day when I may or may not have been fuzzy headed.

If it doesn't make sense while you're reading it...give it a day and it'll all work itself out.
I'll even try to match up some pictures with it so it'll be like a kids book.
Gather 'round children!!...It'll be like friggin' story hour!!

Pictures are in progress...I've posted some on facebook and am currently working on an album on Picasa. Link to follow soon.

Although words and pictures do the city no justice, I hope that YOU find my sharing somewhat entertaining/useful/inspiring and that it lights a fire under your ass to go and explore this fuckin' awesome world we live on.

Amsterdam in Sepia

....and there are so many more. This was a just teaser.
1200 photos are a lot to go through.
