WTH Weds 9 - Blog War & Bananas

These are my friends in NY.
The Ink part of Broken Barn Industries, Ink - I've known for....what....like 8 yrs now??
The Broken Barn Industries part (aka The Angry Gardener), I've not yet met in person, but she seems pretty groovy over the webbernets. Anyone who can throw some fun & good natured shit at me via blog is OK in my book.*
Its also fun when people play along. Unlike you turds who rarely comment.
Y'damn lurkers.
Broken Barn once said they love comments - and I've comment bombed them quite a bit since.

Shut up - COMMENTS RULE!!

Anyways, this picture is for Broken Barn in (yet another) response to this post:

Suck it.

Yes, we have no bananas.
A couple years ago, we did....and we cut them down and tried to eat one but it was gross so we threw them away.
NOW we know that had we hung them to ripen for a little while, we would've had plenty for peanut butter/banana/honey smoothies.
Sometimes we're dummies....but usually only once with something.
Lesson learned.
Last year, we had a bloom but then there was a freeze and the bloom never blossomed any nanners.
Then the landscape guys came through and cut them all down.
That was earlier this year. Maybe 4 months ago?
That picture up there was taken yesterday.
If we get a bloom later this summer, I'll take pictures of it just for my NY friends...cuz they're fun & play along.

Media Monday - Summer Reading

Switching things up a little bit today.
Was just talking to someone about books and thought it would be good to share my reading list for this summer.

I just finished up Kim Harrison's latest in the Hallows Series. Oh, that Rachel Morgan. Always gettin' into shenanigans. Had a good ending and was a little bit different from recent episodes. I dug it. Its fun light reading - good for pool/beachside*.

Just started Steve Martin's latest. His writing is....quirky & sweet. And you can hear his voice reading it to you in your head (that's how it is in mine anyway). I've read both Shopgirl and Pleasure of My Company and loved them both.

Also on the list:

Carl Hiaasen - Nature Girl. I've never read any of his books and my friend, Sarah, gave me this one after I'd asked if she liked it. She read it in one weekend and said it was "silly".

Tom Wolfe - The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Going back to some classics this year and what better time to read about hippies than summer time!!

Hunter S. Thompson - Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Never read it. I read Curse of Lono years ago, but never this one for some reason. Thanks to Willie - I'm now craving all Hunter all the time. If you get a chance, watch "Gonzo" and "Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride". Both great documentaries on the man.

In The Blink of An Eye - Walter Murch. Picked this one up as a recommendation from Sean Patrick Flannery and bought a couple copies for my editing friends. Matt Kelland has already asked to borrow it. I'll read it after him, I reckon.

What So Proudly We Hailed - Blaine Staat. This one makes me laugh cuz I worked for this guy on the corporate dayjob floor some years back. Apparently, he's a future seer and there are a lot of things that he wrote about in this book that parallel present day issues. He blogs here, if you're interested in reading. Great guy who makes lots of great points to think on.

5 books.
5 is good right??
If I add anymore, you'll be updated for sure.

*Unless you get distracted easily like I do when there's lots of primo people watching to be done.

Florence + the Machine - Lungs

I first saw Florence +the Machine on Palladia a few years back. She had been dressed all in black flowiness and was climbing the stage rafters in high-heeled boots.
Her performance was so uh-mazing, I told Matt to find her music for me.
Unfortunately, there was only one record out....Lungs.
He downloaded it for me, I listened to it a couple of times, but something shiny distracted me and it took about 6 months for me to revisit and fall head over heels in love with the album, listening to it on loop and dancing like a wild woman through the house.
Here's an excerpt from her website that puts into words what, up until reading this, I had been unable to.*
***********
This from here:
“I want my music to sound like throwing yourself out of a tree, or off a tall building, or as if you’re being sucked down into the ocean and you can’t breathe,” says Florence Welch. “It’s something overwhelming and all-encompassing that fills you up, and you’re either going to explode with it, or you’re just going to disappear.”
***********
We've got tickets to go see her & the Machine at Hard Rock next Thursday, but for those of you who aren't able to see her live, NPR released this yesterday & you can watch the show online.
-------------------------------
*In the past, I'd always described it as feeling the music in your soul...or having it pull on your chest. Florence says it much better than I do.

Emmineffin' Monday

This was probably the most annoying Monday in the history of Mondays.

Here are the reasons why:

1. Post-kickass vacation Monday. Those ALWAYS suck.

2. Dumbass customers doing some dumbass things & of course, all of them think their issue is the end of the world and more important than everything else and everything is on fire. Just because something may or may not be an emergency for you, does not make it an emergency for me. Just sayin'. Also, if you bug me every 5 mins about said issue and/or start psycho calling me, you're only interrupting & delaying me from actually putting out this imaginary fire you've punted over to me. A GIRL HAS TO MANAGE HER TIME!!! Jeezus.

3. I got spoiled by not having my phone/laptop/etc. with me all weekend.
Unplugging is fuckin' wonderful. Normally on the weekends, I don't do much with my phone unless we're going out and meetin' up with friends. If we're at home chillin', the phone is not attached to my hip. You know why? Because I don't like being on the phone.
Between having been a teenage girl & spending a good chunk of my "corporate career" on the phone for a full 8-12 hr day.....I'm all tapped out.

LIKE RIGHT NOW!!!

Sunday Confession - Craftin' dat shit Forward

Earlier this year, there was a facebook thing to "craft it forward" or some crap.
The first 5 people to comment on it and repost the thingy as their status, you handmake something for. It can be anything. As long as you made it.
I don't remember who all was on my list, but I'm pretty sure it was these folks:

2. Willie
3. May Hayes
5. Um. Yeah. Still don't recall.

So, without further ado, the first one on the list.

Anna Maiya was over last weekend and noticed that I have this hanging on one of our walls:

Upon seeing it, Anna said, "I used to have that same one. And then it broke."
So, I made her a new one....

With glitter & bling. Although, the glitter is difficult to see here.

They're besties.

One down. Only 3 left...unless I can remember who the 5th was.
If you leave a comment on this one, you can have their spot.

WhateverTheHell Wednesday 8 - Twilight & CATDG

I did a poll. Its at the bottom.
If you turds play along, I'll do them monthly.
If you don't, they'll just go away never to be seen again & there will be no fun for you.*

Y'all see the new Breaking Dawn Part 1 trailer??
No? Well, there ya go.
This one made me laugh this morning.

-AND-

For those of you streaming the Casey Anthony trial during work....or watching it on your regular ol' tv - Feel free to leave your own additions/variations:

CASEY ANTHONY TRIAL DRINKING GAME

DRINK:
  • When Judge Belvin says, "pacifically" instead of "specifically".
  • Every sidebar discussion.
  • Every time the camera zooms in on the flagpole eagle.
  • Every time you see Casey laugh.
  • Every time you see Casey cry.
  • When Judge Belvin puts Jose Baez in his place.
  • When a witness shakes or nods their head instead of answering "yes" or "no" to a question.
  • Every time you hear Judge Belvin breathing heavily into the microphone.

*at least until the next dumb attempt for something interactive.

Movie Monday - Hobo With A Shotgun

The title kinda says it all.
You like Rutger Hauer?
You like campy grindhouse splattercore?

If you answered "yes" to both of those: You'll love this movie.
If you answered "no" to both of those: Go back to watching those dumbass Sex & The City movies.

Hobo With A Shotgun is the best movie so far this summer.
I give it 5 out of 5 manhole covers.

Sunday Confession - Slacker

Man, I've really fallen down on the job on here.
Just so you know, I'm not sitting around with my thumb up my butt either, as appealing as that sounds.

The page has been updated. How do you like that shit?
The font up top reminds me of Archer.

I started working on another moviestorm but that'll be a little while before done.
I still have a TON of Toronto footage to get through (lame, I know - that trip was a month ago).
Haven't even touched the Mayhem footage.
Blah, blah, blah....
Bunch of other stuff that doesn't really need to be mentioned here.
I'm working.
On lots of stuff.
That's all you really need to know.

And....
THIS IS LATE!!!

WhateverTheHell Wednesday 7 - Mayhem

Most of you guys know that for my birthday last week, Matthew & I did the long weekend thing here.
Cuz horror movies rule.
So do VIP passes.

We got some shots that looked like this:

Cassie Hack's prom photo.

Vlad chillin'.

Alex Winter's Q&A. He was a damn cool guy.

Effin' up that VIP Party's open bar.

Greg Nicotero did his own Q&A and another with the cast of Walking Dead.

Bruce Campbell & Ted Raimi during the Q&A for the 30th Anniversary cast reunion for Evil Dead.

Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flannery, & Rocco from The Boondock Saints.

I'll be posting more pics on the facebooks.
We had a friggin' blast & are ok with admitting we're now full on con-nerds.
