The Week Without Snoop -or- Another Zombie Pet

It was a beautiful St. Patrick's Day Sunday.
We'd been cleaning the house and had all the doors and windows open.

At about 4pm, I came downstairs for something and stuck my head out the door to see Snoop sitting under the shrubs out front, lookin' like a peaceful little orange badass.  He questioned my glance and started to get up.  I told him it was ok, he could stay right there because I was still vacuuming.
He settled back in, enjoying his spot & looking very content.

I didn't see him for the rest of the night and kept checking the spots he likes to chill in by the front door.
We left the back door open for him.
The next morning I checked his usual spots again & called to him & made a few, "Hey, Matt! Where's my cat? Where's he at? Do you know where my cat's at, Matt?" jokes.
Usually, when he stays out overnight, he's slumber partying with our neighbors next door, but I'd heard that they'd just gotten new kittens, so I wasn't sure if Snoop would've been too down for a kitten slumber party.
I did a lap around the building later in the morning, looking under the shrubs and bushes and on porches.  That afternoon, our other neighbor Nancy, saw me walking around and asked out of her window, "Karen - you can't find Snoop?"  Apparently, I'd let it show.
I shook my head and she said, "Hold on, I'll come help you look for him."
She offered to go check in the slumber party house since she had a key - no Snoop in there.
That's when I started to kinda freak out a little inside.  Him being there was my safe bet.
We wandered all over the place - down by the lake, behind other buildings and on the other side of the tennis courts and pool.  Other neighbors were outside and we asked them if they'd seen him....they helped give us a timeline.
Jenny said that they'd been happy houring on her back patio about about 4:30ish when an orange cat came walkin' up and hung out with them gettin' all sorts of attention.  She's met Snoop before & sent us this picture a while back upon their first meeting at her house:

She began telling us about how awesome Snoop is (duh) saying, "You know, I've never met a cat quite like that one.  He was just hangin' out with us and followed us down to the lake. He's definitely got some human in him."
"Well, did he follow you back from the lake?"
She couldn't remember seeing him after he wandered around the side of one of the buildings down by the lake.
Another neighbor said he spotted an orange cat just wandering around the parking lot & didn't think anything of it.
No one had seen him since.
When Matt came home, we did another lap around the area where he was last seen.

By now, I'm thinking the worst.  That my boy has wandered off to die somewhere.
It rains that night and I think about him out in it.

The next morning, I check all the spots again.  I tell Bonnie about it & she makes a bunch of phone calls to other neighbors, spreading the word.
I do another couple of laps around the hood.
I make signs and post them up at the gate and on a few mailboxes towards the front incase he's made his way up that way.

Still no Snoop.
I am sad.

The following day, I'm wakened before sunrise by the doorbell ringing twice, slightly frantically.  Nancy's daughter, Noelle, saying she just saw an orange cat but that it took off.  But then she says, "Oh, I bet that was Turk, wasn't it?"  Turk's our other orange cat who does cat things when it's dark out - mainly sleeping on top of my car & attacking small critters. We determine that it was Turk and she apologizes and leaves.
Then I check all the same Snoop spots again throughout the day.
Someone calls and asks if I've found him, telling me that he saw an orange cat (also has one himself) walking up the street like he had no where to be, but that he had a darker belly.  I tell him that Snoop's got a lighter belly cuz he's older.
Then I go driving up the way he told me he'd seen this cat.
I see no cat.
I am sad.

The following morning, I start to feel acceptance.  Everyone's either asking or telling me about every orange cat in the neighborhood. The signs I made are still up, but it's rained a few times so they've either been rained out or are gone.  I make new ones and put them up.
I see Bonnie later in the day and she runs up to tell me she just saw an orange cat and that she'll drive me to him.  We find him and at first I get my hopes up and I walk up slow and I'm all....."is it him?" with squinty eyes as if that'll help me see him better (why do people do that? you end up putting your eyelashes in view and your eyes can't focus on that and it makes everything even blurrier.  squinting doesn't help a damn thing except to keep the sun outta your eyes if you don't have sunglasses and it makes Timothy Olyphant sexier in Justified - if that's even possible).
My heart skips and then I realize it isn't him and the cat starts to run from me.
Nope...definitely not Snoop.
I get sad again.

On the 5th, 6th, & 7th days, I make myself busy and start cleaning out Snoop things - accepting that I'll probably not see him again & will never really know why.  Me, Matt, & Turk are starting to adjust to life without Snoop.

Later on the day on the 8th day, I get a phone call from Matt saying that neighbor Nancy has just called him with some news and that she tried knocking but I was listening to loud music and didn't hear.
I go outside and she flags me down and says, "Karen...this is Steve.  Steve, Karen.  Steve just might have Snoop."
So I follow Steve to his place....in the building by the lake - that we circled I don't know how many times.  The whole time he's telling me how awesome Snoop is. (duh)
He lets me in, we find Snoop comfy and sleepin' in bed....like "what?"
I say, "It IS Snoop!!" and Snoop gets up and comes towards me and follows me downstairs to Steve's kitchen....where the food is.
Snoop eats and his humans discuss the vet bill that's spread out on the table.
Steve is shaking and freaked out & tells me he just lost his cat of 18yrs and thought that Snoop, he'd renamed Mojo, was a stray to take in and make him feel better, so he took him to the vet to get checked out.  He gives me the run down on the meds.  None of it serious but then he tells me they wanted to do a biopsy on the roof of Snoop's mouth by his snaggletooth.
I think I'll get a 2nd opinion.  The dude is 16yrs old & perfectly happy with his snaggletooth.
I pick Snoop up and he loves on my nose with said snaggletooth.
We chat about cat sitting and I offer to leave Snoop with him for the rest of the afternoon, if it'll make him feel better.  He shrugs.
I collect everything, thank Steve profusely, & Snoop follows me out.
Steve says, "Oh...also, he's negative for feline AIDS & Leukemia.  So that's good."
I say, "Cool. Just like last time."
We stop and visit the neighbors that helped me look for him.  He gets lots of attention on the walk back home.

Then Matt gets home and welcomes Snoop back - we try to give him some love, but he wasn't havin' it.
And instead goes to sleep in a laundry pile.  I wonder if he was happier with Steve & mad at me for finding him. Turk walks by and hisses at him.
With Snoop being gone for a week & us adjusting to it, we now had to readjust that adjustment.
It was like Snoop was back from the dead.

It didn't take too long.
The next morning I woke up with Snoop in his spot up around my head and Turk curled up by my hip.
And every morning since then, I wake up & Snoop is up by my head.

The following day I gave Steve a Thank You card with money for the vet bill.

Yesterday I received the order for the custom made collars that have the boys' names and my phone number on them.

The End.

Now I'm Just Somebody That Used To Blog

Hey there.
Been a little while.

I've forgotten how to do this.

I have a list of things I want to write about and share with you - places we've been, restaurants we've eaten in, movies we've seen....
I'm so behind, I don't really know where to start.

So, I'll start here.
About a month or so ago, I got involved in this Americana art show at Peacock.
I made some shelves to use for display.  They were made out of cheap garden fencing.
I'd do before and after pictures here, but suddenly I have to upgrade my blogger account, so you can watch this video I made after we went to the show.  See if you can pick them out.

*change the quality setting to 720p, please and thank you.

Media Monday - ArtOrgy

About a month or so ago, we hosted a creative minds gathering & everyone worked on a project.
This is what it looked like.

Thank you so much for putting this video together, Willie. You rule!

WTH Weds - Still No Air

So I called the a/c folks yesterday morning and they said they had parts on order for us (new compressor) but it would take 3-7 business days for it to come in and they would call and schedule with us as soon as the delivery came through.
There is no ETA.

This company is USHAC.
Do not use them.
You see that bit on the website where it says "24hr Emergency Services"? Yeah, when I asked them about that last week when we were trying like hell to get someone to come help us out before the Bomb.....the chick said, "Oh yeah, we don't have that. Sorry, we're completely booked. You're scheduled for Monday."
Later on that day, we rec'd confirmation that we actually had a Saturday appt scheduled.
One of the lead techs came out Saturday, Steve, and was a very nice fellow and most helpful - stopped to point out things, explained what he did, what needed to be done next, & answered our questions without making us feel like we were keeping him from being some where else.
Everyone else at the company has done nothing but cause frustration.
I've written a bad review for them on yp.com.
It made me feel only a little better.

On the plus side, my skin has never felt better. Cold showers and sweating as much as I have the past week has really done wonders for my skins. Buffalo Bill would be proud.

Also - its nice to know so many of our friends have open doors for us.
We're choosing to tough it out in the evenings so far because it's good training for the zombie apocalypse when there will be no power. So, we'd have to be acclimated to it then anyway. This is just prepping us for that.
We've also had some nice storms roll through that have cooled things off so its been quite pleasant the past couple nights.

Words and other crap...

Besides that ----
I get really frustrated with people that are for the AZ "papers please" law....
There are those that are all about racial profiling (most because they themselves are white) and folks that talk about how patriotic they are and blah blah blah (and I swear this is probably the most political I'll ever get), but PLEASE let's not forget the following:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
'
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

In other news, Matthew and I just had the following conversation:

Me: I don't know if we'd be ready for a Fast Zombie attack. Regular Zombie, yeah, for sure....but, fast......fast is some fucked up shit.....*

Matthew: Well, do you want the ax and the machete upstairs then?

Me: The machete is already upstairs.

Matthew: Oh yeah? Where?

Me: Under the bed...I'm not kidding when I say that I sleep with a machete under the bed.

*I still have a plan in place, don't you worry your pretty little face about that.

Dreams

The past two nights I've had these weird dreams. Wanna hear about them?? GOOD!!

The night before:

Me & a bunch of people (I think Walton Goggins was with me) were hold up in this ritzy neighborhood - in a two story house. Zombie hordes were coming after us and we were on the 2nd story with Walton on the stairs inside, shooting as they came up, and another woman on the balcony, shooting as they were coming toward the house in the yard. I was running back and forth between these two areas with ammo and pickin' zombies off as needed. I kept telling people in the house to turn off the lights and shut the hell up when the hordes let up, but they wouldn't listen so we just kept getting hammered by attacks. When they finally did shut up, we realized we were out of food and supplies in the house we were stuck in so we decided to make a run for it to one of the houses next door that had a tall iron fence separating property lines. A few of us ran through the yard but the hordes kept coming and we ended up turning back, not able to get to the house next door.
I woke up about 3 times during this dream and every time I went back to sleep, I was back in the same house, with the same people, with the same zombies attacking.
Was friggin' tiring.

Last night:

Matthew and I had been arguing about money when suddenly he took out a gun and shot me in the chest. Then he told me he was aiming to kill and that I'd die a slow death so he could claim insurance money, but the bullet hit me more between my shoulder and chest, kinda up high on my right side, not even close to my heart. Since I don't do anything that people tell me to do, I was hell bent on NOT dying a slow death and became more of a pain in the ass for him - making fun of Matt for not knowing where the heart was in a person's body and telling everyone what he'd done and trying to get to the hospital to have the bullet removed. I'd even tried jumping in a go-cart to get myself some help - and the go-cart ran out of gas. Everyone laughed at me in my attempt, saying I was being over-dramatic.
I can remember what the bullet sounded like when it punctured, a wet thumping sound when it hit. Was like it happened in slow-motion.
Everyone I told about it, wouldn't believe that Matt had shot me, so I was alone in trying to get it removed and even towards the end of the dream, when I woke up - it was still lodged in my shoulder/chest. But dammit, I was still alive!! That'll show you, assholes!!

I remember a dream I had a while back where some random person shot me, and when I looked it up to see what it meant, the book said that it was that I was trying to get rid of a bad habit.
But my habits don't have anything to do with insurance money.
Whatevers.
I just know these two dreams were pretty cool lookin' in my head (although tiring/draining) while I was dreaming them and I wanted to share wif the webbernetz.
So there.

What did we do over the weekend?

I decided to take a break from the interwebs (as well as my laptop) this weekend.
By choice.
After a few weeks of being glued to my laptop - I needed to breathe, count to 10, and just step back from it.
Unplug myself, so to speak.

So, Friday night - we grabbed up my mom, and drove out to see Chad Pollpeter at the Lake Eustis Museum of Art.
His show was really well paired with another local artist, Marcos Cruz.
Marcos also had an unveiling of a new piece. His stuff is mostly about perception and perspective. Very interesting stuff and makes you think. He'll also be featured in the new Amway Arena once its opened with pieces located on each floor of the elevator lobby area of the parking garage.
Pretty fascinating guy - has big ideas about alternative fuels and such. Check him out.

Anna & Jeremy met up with us and after the show we headed over to Crazy Gator's for beer and food and some interesting/dumb/fun conversation.
I think we were too loud and rowdy because every once in a while the bartender would pump more money into the jukebox and turn up the volume.
Asshole.

Saturday morning, Matt and I hung out at Mom's and worked on uninstalling some crap she had on her computer that made it run slow and wouldn't let her change out the desktop wallpaper. She rewarded us by fixing us eggs & toast.
We also watched Ireland beat the hell out of England in RBS 6 Nations.
It was a damn good game and Mom's first to watch so was fun listening to Matt explain rules and crap and Mom talk about how cute some of the players are. Rugby players are the shit, fo'sho'.

After that we went to the gym and then to Jersey Mike's (YUM!) and then I read the 2nd book of this Zombie Trilogy I've been munchin' on and Matt threw on Boondock Saints 2.
I fell asleep on the couch, but he said it got really cool towards the end.

Sunday, we arose and headed straight to eat some damn good dim sum at Chan's (makes me laugh that there's a reviewer named 'Nomnomnom' on there) with Anna, Blue Maiya and her family, & then Jess came in later with Carter for a quick munch on some buns & dumplings before a trip to Lowe's.
After gorging ourselves with unidentifiable and delicious delights, Matt, Anna, & I headed over to this Russian deli/market that just opened up about a month ago. Sausages, pierogies, and beer, OH MY!! Anna was in heaven. We tried some marinated peppers and mushrooms - they were yummy. So we bought a little bit of everything and plan on going back for more.
Will let you know how it all turns out when we cook it up.
After that we went to this asian import store (mostly anime/manga, toys, cards, asian movies, & crap) that was closing their store front to sell exclusively online (but their website isn't up yet that I can tell). We looked around to see if anything jumped out at us so we could take advantage of the 50-70% off sale, but alas, we walked out with nothing.
Ran over to Best Buy for ipod dock/speakers. Ended up with some JBLs and used up a gift card I had burning a hole in my pocket. They didn't have any replacement RockBand drum petals. A couple weeks ago, Matt & I were rockin' out so hard, I broke the damn thing and keep forgetting to pick up a replacement. So of course, when I remember, the store is out of stock.
Amazon.com, here I come!!
The rest of Sunday afternoon was full of napping, reading, cooking (pork tenderloin and peppers over brown rice) and topped off with a viewing of The Bank Job. I wasn't paying too much attention since I was hell bent on finishing that 2nd Zombie book. Which I did, just before heading to bed....

So, now that I'm back on the interwebs this week, I figured I'd share everything with those of you who care.
SHARING IS CARING!

America is a Melting Pot

But you'd never guess that from this picture (from the State of the Union the other night).

Front Row: 2nd dude in is thinkin' about that sweet intern ass he got last night. Dude next to him had ribs for dinner.
2nd Row: 1st dude in is practicing his People's Eyebrow. Dude next to him is shifting on his hemorrhoid pillow.
3rd Row: 1st dude is wondering if anyone's noticed that he's not wearing a dark suit and is silently patting himself on the back for being unique. The Ginger dude in the middle has a soul. Last dude on the right is twittering.
4th Row: 2nd dude in is shielding his eyes because of the glare coming off all the whiteness around him. The dude next to him is trying to fart quietly.

If you have any white dude captions to add, post it!!
Bonus points if you include the dude's name.

My Christmas Wish List

Remember when you were a kid and all the mall dept stores and Toys R Us would send out those huge Christmas Wish List catalogs full of magical wonder and delight (usually in the form of brightly colored Chinese plastics and electronics)?
Do they still do that anymore? I remember the smell of those things. It was almost as cool as the actual presents on Xmas morning.
My parents also used to take us out to ToysRUs to play in the store and get ideas to make our wish lists - but it was really more about what playthings we could ride around the store and what video games we could play in 5min increments.
Being kids - we already knew what was on our list. Didn't need no stinking ideas because we couldn't think of anything. Now that I'm typing this, I'm realizing that my parents took us there so they could price everything out in order to figure how much they'd end up spending on Teddy Ruxpin and a Nintendo.
Meanwhile, my brother and I were running rampant on pogoballs & bigwheels.

Anyway, here's my list for Christmas 2009.

  1. Food Processor - >3cups
  2. Juicer
  3. Phantom of the Opera tickets for Jan 2010
  4. MONEY!!! which will go towards The Dollhouse of Horrors
  5. sweaterboots
  6. chuck taylors - any color, any style
  7. House cleaning - maid service for 3 months
  8. Li’l Abner - dvd
  9. Teeter HangUp
  10. Left4Dead 2
  11. Brutal Legend
  12. Sims 3 World Adventures ExpPk
  13. Socks
  14. Underwear
  15. New toothbrush

Zombie Head

There's worms and bugs and blood in that ball in her head.

Wig head (thanks to Brenda), paint, and crap from the $1.00 bins of left over Halloween toys, and I WANT TO MAKE MORE!!!

To Matthew: Happy 5 yr Anniversary, SPMB. Your shorts are the best gift wrap ever. heh. We need to go get eggs and toilet paper for Cabbage Night!!
